A Lưới Travel Guide: Nature, Culture, and Regeneration with Indigenous Peoples

Why visit A Lưới today?

During the war, this area held strategic importance, most notably A Shau Valley and Peak 937 – A Bia Mountain (nicknamed Hamburger Hill) in 1969, where fierce battles left scars that lingered for decades.

Today, however, we invite you to return to A Lưới not only as a place of war remembrance, but as a place to re-member with Nature, the Forest, and the indigenous peoples – the Ta Oi, Pa Co, and Bru Van Kieu – who call this land home.

With improved roads and facilities, A Lưới invites a fresh rediscovery, where peaceful rural life, abundant nature, and distinctive ethnic culture remain beautifully authentic. Just a short journey from Hue, it connects splendidly with Phong Nha, Hoi An, or the Central Highlands along the legendary Hồ Chí Minh Road.

Let us join hands to rebuild, replenish, and regenerate thriving ecosystems and flourishing communities, fostering resilience in the face of climate change.

A Lưới: A Call to Care for Climate and Community

Our Positive Impact Activation Program works with a Ta Oi ethnic village nestled between A Bia Mountain, A Lin, A Sap Rivers, Anor Waterfall and biodiverse forests, co-creating meaningful eco-tourism experiences.

Rooted in Ta Oi indigenous wisdom and co-designed with the local community, this program goes far beyond sightseeing. It integrates regenerative practices with food, forestry, and culture, creating a holistic approach to sustainable development.

Instead of mass tourism, we welcome responsible tourism partners and visitors who want to:

  • Support local livelihoods
  • Contribute to forest restoration and nature-based solutions
  • Experience authentic, indigenous cultural tourism in Central Vietnam
  • Create transformational and meaningful travel experiences

How-To Be Part of the Solution?

By immersing yourself in A Lưới’s nature, culture and embracing the challenges of daily life, you help advance the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), reducing carbon footprint, enhancing biodiversity, community well-being.

Even a day trip can make a difference. Our community-led visitor experiences include:

  • Guided nature walks, cycling, rowing boat, or kayaking
  • Hands-on ethnic craft workshops (zèng textile weaving, bamboo basket or “Amber” mat making)
  • Ta Oi forest-sourced cuisine “Food As Medecine”.
  • Trekking to Hamburger Hill or foraging wild, edible plants with Ta Oi hosts, who share stories of adaptation and why reconnecting with nature is essential for human wellbeing

This initiative lays the foundation for collaboration between communities and travelers. We will actively communicate the opportunities for visitors to contribute through volunteering, storytelling, creative economy, or climate-friendly actitivies.
