Itinerary

Half DaySlow Cycling into Rural Life & Home Lunch

8:00 – Meet at the Slow Travel Hue office, conveniently located near the tourist area and central hotels, Truong Tien Bridge and Toa Kham dragon boat station.

After a short briefing and bike check, start a leisurely ride towards Thanh Toan Village. Cycle through a network of hidden alleys and shady roads for about 30 minutes before reaching the countryside.

Make a few stops at rice fields, lotus ponds (in season) and duck farms to learn about local livelihoods. Lend a hand if you feel like it, for a simple and meaningful connection.

Continue to the local market to discover fresh produce, daily groceries and the vibrant sights, sounds and rhythms of rural life.

The ancient temples and ancestral shrine houses reveal another side of village life: social cohesion and rituals passed down through generations. Traditional architecture shaped by feng shui principles, along with decorative mosaic patterns, offers insights into Vietnamese artistic and spiritual perspectives.

At the heart of Thanh Toan Village stands the centuries-old tile-roofed bridge, a national heritage site and more than just a means of crossing the river—it is a place of connection and cultural expression. Meet local farmers, join them to row a sampan and try net fishing on the Như Ý River. Take a moment to relax, share stories or listen to traditional folk singing.

Back on the bicycles, ride along the river and rice fields to a typical country house, where you will join the hosts in preparing and enjoying a specialty lunch in a rustic, green setting.

After lunch, sit down with the hospitable local women and learn their cherished craft: making the traditional conical hat, “Nón Lá,” from palm leaves. Simple and light in appearance, each hat is made with patience, skill and reverence for nature’s gifts.

This moment of conviviality provides the perfect energy to cycle back to Hue, carrying with you new insights into Vietnamese traditions, hospitality, crafts and cuisine.

Finish in central Hue around 13:00.

We loved the day – the girls loved the fishing and cooking. It was the best way to meet local people and see local living – Maybe for other families the cycling out of the city might be scary.

Quang Vu did a very good job and did a lot of interaction with our children. Also he told a lot about the country and culture. Keep up the good work.
