Known locally as Hương Giang, the Perfume River has long been a source of inspiration for the imperial city of Huế.
Legends whisper through its waters.
Some say Princess Ngọc Trân once bathed at its source, her grace lending the river its charm. Others recall Emperor Gia Long, who ordered villagers upstream to craft rose water and pour it into the flow.
Science offers its own poetry. The river rises from the Trường Sơn Mountains, with streams flowing through Bạch Mã National Park, where, in springtime, the wild Acorus gramineus “Thạch Xương Bồ” releases a delicate fragrance that travels gently downstream.
Whether legend or ecology, one truth quietly remains: we are not apart from Nature – we are a part of Nature.

Wellness in Nature Exploration
This belief guides how we design our Nature–Culture immersions along the upstream Perfume River. For us, it is never about offering a single activity like a herbal workshop, a foraging session as a product.
It is about opening a space and flow.
A space where Slow Travel practitioners, experience creators, and local hosts come together to contribute and restore relationships and regenerate with nature.
Through green architecture, traditional healing, wild medicinal plants, and their presence in daily cuisine and rituals, we begin to reconnect.

So when someone asks for a “herbal workshop,” we sometimes pause. Because it is not a part. It is a whole.
And for those who choose not to rush, but to slow down, integrate, and simply be present, we are reminded of the Taoist wisdom:
Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished.

Off-the-beaten track and flow along the Perfume River
Experience an off-the-beaten track journey out of Hue city, central Vietnam to immerse yourselves along the upstream Perfume River. Riding a pillion on a motorbike or cycling through green trails to pleasantly expose yourself to beautiful landscapes.
Contemplate the imposing and poetic Emperor Gia Long royal mausoleum complex, explore wellness in nature through the foraging of medicinal plants, processing natural products and savoring a healthy lunch at herbal farms.
How did the Slow Travellers experiences?
Had a fabulous day with my guide, Son, at the royal mausoleum of Emperor Gia Long, in the serene countryside just outside of Hue. We biked along the Perfume river and learned about medicinal herbs from a local farmer. A spectacular lunch was had in the farmer’s house where his line of handmade herbal goods were on display. Son was incredibly informative and entertaining while explaining the nature, culture, history, and architecture of this beautiful place.

During our stay on Hué, we had a scooter tour which brought us ho the tumb of the first emperor of the Nguyen dynasty. After that visit we went to visit a garden with medicinal plants.
This was all so interesting mainly because of the quality of our french speaking guide, mrs Ha Ngoc. Thanks to her, we forgot the bad weather by having a great guiding.
Thank You Ha for the great day.
