Exploring Bach Ma National Park from Hue or Hoi An, Da Nang is a captivating experience for nature lovers. This hiking and camping in Bach Ma National Park offers you the opportunity to explore nature more in-depth than on a short day trip. Beside a dedicated guide, a park specialist will escort to share more knowledge about biodiversity, environment protection.
Hike & Meals: The hike starts in early afternoon thus lunch is not arranged. However the cantina near the park entrance serves simple rice, noodle if you may need it. The package includes dinner, breakfast, tea break and eventual sundowner drinks. The hike is 10-12km in total and split into two half-days, almost at easy level. There are some challenging parts where guests need to use supportive rope to pass on slippery rock. With prior notice, we can shorten, alternate some sections for guests’ safety and enjoyment. Proper hiking outfits, shoes are recommended.
Camping: The tent is set on a paved ground, open-air campsite under forest pine canopy. Individual tent accommodates 2-4 persons, with a sleeping bag, pillow (provided). Basic standard toilet, bathrooms (fresh water) are available. For those who prefer a proper bedding, there is an option to stay in the French villa guesthouse (subject to supplement).
March to September is best season to go to Bach Ma. It is sunnier and there is more fauna, flora to explore. October to February is the rainy season however fit adventurers will find it interesting to explore quieter nature and special species.
Bạch Mã National Park (40km south of Hue)
2 days (noon to noon)
Around mid-day, depart from Hue for a 40km drive to Bach Ma National Park. On the way, the guide explains the values of this important green heaven, the French hill station history. Admire the picturesque Tam Giang lagoon as you are approaching the park. Meet the conservationist who gives a briefing of what to expect, explore. Make some last preparations for a safe and fun experience.
Start your nature immersion with the first 16km uphill driving. The road is winding yet well paved. Immediately, you feel the pleasant hilly atmosphere, changing sky and enchanting forest tapestry. Embark on a warm-up walk to the impressive Do Quyen waterfall. It is named after the flower Rhododendron and the legendary love story. Spare your heart watching the foaming waterfall and marvelous mountain scenery.
Continue blazing the botanical trails to learn scientific characteristics of various plants and their traditional healing. Relax by “Five Lakes” natural pool for tea break. Go swimming in the icy cold water if you feel fit or take time for photographing, sharing the Acorus Calamus tales.
Proceed to the campsite. This last section has some tricky climbs or slippery rocks. Be mindful, inquire about necessary assistance from your guides. Arrive at the campsite by sunset, settle down. If weather permits, you can enjoy a surprise sundowner drink at a scenic spot.
In the evening, enjoy a BBQ together around the campfire. Listening to nature, sharing forest stories then peacefully sleeping in the tent.
Overnight at campsite in individual tent (2-4persons/tent, pillow, sleeping bag provided).
Wake up in the peaceful sounds of nature, singing birds and swinging leaves. Spend time connecting with Mother Nature or meditating.
After breakfast, pace up on other interesting trails (3km) to search for exotic birds, endemic species. Imitate the “bird caller” to talk with nature, spot an Edwards’s pheasant or trace for wildlife footprint. If lucky enough, you may encounter happy families of red-shanked douc langurs. These endangered primates are now coming back more and more in Bach Ma highly protected forest.
Reach Hai Vong Dai at 1450m peak, an octagonal architecture used to be a sea-watching tower. This instagram-able spot inspires your liberty and creativity. Extend your sights as far as the ocean, and the immense Tam Giang lagoon.
Rejoin your car for a scenic descent, passing wine cellars, old villas, La Poste recalling a sought after French village. Drop off at your hotel in Hue around noon.
Special note: The itinerary is suggestive and is subject to adjustment depending on your fitness, timing and weather conditions. For those who want to see nice sunrise at 5:30, it is recommended to wake up at 5:00 and get transferred to La Poste villa or the summit.
